INTRODUCTION

Riptide Multisports, LLC., located in Arvada, CO, has been based out of the Susan M. Duncan YMCA for the past five years. Initially begun as a year-round USA swim program, Riptide, under the direction and leadership of elite triathlete Sean Wendt, began branching out into other disciplines. Our athletes not only swim, but also participate as amateur and professional USA triathletes, seasonal American Cycling Association (ACA) and USA Cycling Federation cyclists, and competitive USATF cross country runners. Currently, there are more than-100 families participating in the Riptide Multisports program. Sponsored and supported athletes range between the ages of 13-35 year olds and participate in local, regional, national, and international events.

Triathlon originated in the US in the 1970’s and it is now an Olympic sport, having made a hugely successful debut at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Professional American triathletes are typically men and women who have transitioned to the sport from a competitive background in one of triathlon’s three disciplines -swimming, biking, or running. As a result, American success in the Olympic Games and on the World Cup circuit has been inconsistent in spite of the significant resources applied to this handful of athletes. Countries such as Australia and New Zealand, that consistently produce some of the finest triathletes in the world, use their financial resources to support team-oriented, developmental programs that identify and develop talented young athletes. Riptide Multisports LLC was formed in direct response to their success. Our goal is to use the Australian/New Zealand model to identify, develop, and support young American talent and thus prepare them for competition at the international and Olympic level.

Believe…

“When you’re out there at 5am at the crack of dawn, training to be the best…just remember, that somewhere else your competition is probably sound asleep. I can guarantee you, that they are not working as hard as you. You’ve got to believe…’WHY NOT ME?’… you’ve got to believe…just believe.”
