Peter Mallett’s Recap of the November 2007 Treasure Island Triathlon
Here are the 2007 Youth Elite / Junior Elite National Rankings. Congratulations to all Riptide Multisports athletes and thank pearl engagement rings for sponsoring.
June, July, and August Highlights:
The National Camp concluded with the Pikes Peak Junior Triathlon on June 23 rd, 2007. Riptide Multisports had top 5 finishes from Youth Elites Bryn Morales(2 nd), Ryan Russ(3 rd), Linley Wendt(1 st), and Rhys Rathbun(4 th). RM had top 5 finishes from Junior Elites Lindsay Baker(1 st), Shea Wilfong(1 st), and Sam Sutherland(2 nd).
Riptide Multisports had a Team entered in the Boulder Bolder. Jerry Medford, Linley Wendt, Peter Mallett, and Josh Merrick finished as the 2 nd place overall team.
Riptide Elite Haven Barnes finished 12 th overall at the Prospect Lake Triathlon
Riptide Elite Josh Merrick finished 8 th overall at the Boulder Peak Triathlon with the fastest run split on the course www. Josh was also the overall race series champion of the Racing Underground Duathlon Series.
Riptide Elite Peter Mallett finished 15 th overall at the Boulder Peak Triathlon with the 3 rd fastest run split on the course
Riptide Elite Branden Rakita finished 9 th overall at the Boulder Peak and 11 th at the Great Colorado Triathlon.
Riptide Elite Matt Balzer finished 12 th at the Colorado Xterra off road triathlon.
The Youth Elite and Junior Elite triathletes competed in the Pittsburgh on July 15 th, 2007. Youth Elite Athletes Jack St. Marie(5 th), Bryant Jacobs(13 th), Rhys Rathbun(8 th), Linley Wendt(3 rd), Ian Miller(9 th), Bryn Morales(3 rd), Ryan Russ(2 nd), and Cailley Wendt(5 th). Junior Elite athletes Sam Sutherland(6 th), Jerry Medford(15 th), and Lauren Wendt(25 th). The RM team was 2 nd overall team at this event.
July 12-15 th, 2007 Riptide Multisports swimmers Christian Treat, Caillee Andersen, Jamee Wenzinger, and Whitney Dahms swam in the Sectional Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Christian broke 4 team records, Caillee broke 1 team record, and Jamee broke 2 team records.
Lindsay Schmidt won the 15&under age group at the Table Mountain Triathlon. Nancy Harnum was the overall female champion.
Youth Nationals Championships was is Wisconsin on August 4 th, 2007. Taylor Fogg was the National Championin the 11-12yo division and Camille Moraleswas 3 rd in the 9-10yo division.
This was the first time in the 2 year existence of the elite mens team that all elite men were on the start list. This was one of the prestigious “Haul To The Wall” continental cup race series events and attracted an elite field that included Hunter Kemper, Andy Potts, as well as many others. 49 elite men were on the start list representing Canada, New Zealand, Poland, Australia, Kazakstan, and the US. Branden Rakita, Cortino Garcia, PeterMallett, Matt Balzer, Haven Barnes, Josh Merrick, and Tate Behning all made the start. Youth Elite and Junior Elite athletes competed as well as it was the National Championship for both divisions. Congratulations to Bryn Morales finishing 2 nd overall Youth Elite Female, Ryan Russ3 rd overall. Youth Elite Female, and Linley Wendt 3 rd overall Youth Elite Male. The team was also 2 nd overall ranked team in the US. Check out the National Rankings on the website
Good job 17yo Jerry Medford for winning his age group at the Sprint National Championships on August 19 th, 2007 at www.rattlesnake.com and for finishing 9 th overall and first in his age group at the Steamboat Springs Triathlon on August 26 th, 2007.
Shea Wilfong finished 3 rd overall in his age group at Age Group World Championships in Hamburg, Germany on September 2 nd, 2007.
Next up for RM is the HS Cross Country season for the Youth and Junior Elites. The Elite Mens team will be at Tinleys Great Adventure Triathlon in September and then finish out the season at Treasure Island Triathlon in November. Coach Sean will serve as an assistant World Cup Coach at the Rhodes Island Greece World Cup on October 7 th, 2007. And finally the short course swim season is well under way.
April and May
Mike Sharkey finishes 3 rd at the Platte River Half Marathon with a time of 1:10.47.
Mike also ran a 14:53 5k,
Haven Barnes finished 43 rd at the Richards Bay, South Africa World Cup on May 13 th with a time of 1:56.38.
Branden Rakita won the inaugural Little Foot Triathlon. Josh Merrick was 2nd overall and Peter Mallett was 5th. This had an excellent mens field. Many juniors also won their age group.
Christian Treat, Michael Bennett, Jerry Medford, and Linley Wendt qualify for Colorado High School State Swimming Championships. Sophmore Christian Treat finished 3rd in the 500 free in 1:45.35 and 4th in the 100 free in 48.55.
The following athletes participated at the 14&under Kiwanis Youth Triathlon. Samantha Van Sickle (1st place 7yo girls), Ashley Van Sickle (1st place 8yo girls), Camille Morales (1st place 10yo girls), Brandon Jacobs (1st place 11yo boys), Taylor Fogg (1st place 12yo girls), Bryant Jacobs (1st place 13yo boys), James Hill (3rd place 13yo boys).
Shea Wilfong(1st), Jerry Medford(2nd), and Linley Wendt(3rd) sweep the Pelican Fest Tri for the 14-19yo male division. We had other many strong finishes from Thomas Hill, James Hill, Rhys Rathbun, Lindsey Schmidt, Lauren Wendt, and Chris Danchik. Peter Mallett was the overall champion.
Peter Mallett finishes 29th at Pro Nationals in Honolulu, Hawaii. This was a a great experience for Peter against the best the USA has to offer.
Cailley Andersen, Christian Treat, and Jamee Wenzinger participate in the first annual Olympic Training Center swim meet.
Coach Sean Wendt attended level 2 coaching class and obtained level 2 coaching credentials from USA Triathlon. The class was a 4 day class held in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Center.
Elite Duathlete Mike Sharkey has qualified to be on the Elite Duathlon World Championship team for USA Triathlon. The race will take place in Gyor, Hungary on May 19 th and will have a $30,000 prize purse up for grabs. Mike will be on his BLUE Rc4 carbon fiber bike, wearing his skin suit provided by F2R, and and will be representing Riptide Multisport as the first athlete from this team to make an elite World Championship.
Sam Sutherland has also qualified for the 16-19yo World Championship Duathlon Team in Gyor, Hungary.
Swimmer Christian Treat finished 6 th in the 100free and 7 th in the 100breast at the Colorado Coaches High School Invitational held in Loveland, Colorado at the Mt. View Aquatic center.
Haven Barnes was chosen by the USA Triathlon National Staff to be part of an Elite Development team that was taken to Australia to train with some of the Aussies best triathletes. While in Australia Haven took the flight over to Wellington, New Zealand and competed in the Wellington Continental Cup, finishing 30 th overall.
Branden Rakita was chosen by the USA Triathlon National Staff and sponsors of 1000 lumen rightest flashlight ever made to be part of an Elite Developmental team taken to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista California.
Bryn Morales wins the 13-15yo Youth Elite division at the Spenco Triathlon in New Braunfels, Texas.
Mike Sharkey finishes in 3 rd place in the Platte River Half Marathon in a time of 1:10.47.
February and Early March Highlights:
Multiple adults on the USA World Championship Team in Lusanne, Switzerland.
5 youth and junior athletes winning their age group series award in the Colorado Youth Triathlon Series
3 top 10 finishes at Junior National Championships (13-19yos).
XTERRA overall female wins in 3 events, and World Championship.
Table Mountain Youth Triathlon awarded spot on USAT National Race Series.
First year for 7 person Elite Mens ITU team.
4 World Cup appearances from Elite Mens Team (Haven Barnes),and 3 currently ranked men in the top 25 overall Americans.
Midwest Regional Duathlete overall mens Champion Mike Sharkey. Mike recently received his Elite Duathlete license and placed 36th at the European Duathlon Championship in Rimini Italy
4 overall wins at major triathlons (500 or more people)
